US Secretary of State is to meet with “religious leaders of Ukraine”

On January 3, 2020, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, during his visit to Ukraine, is going to meet with church leaders of the country, according to the official website of the US Department of State.

According to the program of the visit, published by the State Department, Michael Pompeo will meet in Kiev with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, Foreign Minister Vadim Pristayko and Defense Minister Andrei Zagorodniuk, "to reaffirm US support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

According to the Department of State, Pompeo intends to meet “with representatives of civil society, business community and religious leaders to discuss human rights issues, the investment climate and the government’s reform agenda.”

In addition, Pompeo will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Wall near Mikhailovskaya Square in order to honor the memory of those who died in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that in the opinion of the head of the OCU, Epiphanius Dumenko, the United States did not exert pressure on the Church in the matter of recognizing the OCU.
