The time of Lent is a time of repentance, Archimandrite Metodije, the abbot of the Serbian Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos recalled in his word, addressed to the faithful of Ukraine.
Congratulating the believers on the beginning of Lent, the abbot of the Holy Mount Athos expressed the hope that the Orthodox Ukrainians would spend this time in repentance.
“The time of Great Lent is a time of repentance,” he said in an interview with the correspondent of the Union of Orthodox Journalists. “And we hope that the people of Ukraine will spend these holy days in proper spiritual mood, and the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ will bring you special joy."
As reported by the UOJ, the abbot of the Athos monastery noted that the recognition of the OCU by the Constantinople Patriarchate had led to certain unrest on Mount Athos, but the Serbian Monastery of Hilandar, like Serbia, recognizes only the UOC, led by His Beatitude Onuphry.
