Isaiah of Tamassos’ confessor: Metropolitan Athanasios should be the primate

Metropolitan Nikiforos of the Cypriot Orthodox Church of Kykkos said that Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol should become the Primate, reports omegalive.com.cy.
Metropolitan Nikiforos, who is the confessor of Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamasos, wrote an appeal to the clergy and believers, in which he noted that "the conscience of the clergy and people of the Church of Cyprus gave Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol 36% of the vote."
According to Metropolitan Nikiforos, this is “a clear and complete signal that the people are in favor of electing Metropolitan Athanasios as the new archbishop of Cyprus.”
“Therefore, following the verdict of the clergy and the people, and also for reasons dictated by my episcopal conscience, I declare that I unconditionally support the election of Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol and his elevation to the rank of the new Archbishop.”
Metropolitan Nikiforos called on other bishops of the Church of Cyprus, “who must act according to their conscience and the will of the faithful, to do the same,” that is, to support Metropolitan Athanasios.
At the same time, according to the statement of Metropolitan Nikiforos, published by the Greek edition Romfea, on December 16, he unconditionally advocated the election of Metropolitan Isaiah to the post of Primate of the Cypriot Church.
Also in November 2022, the UOJ wrote that the Metropolitan of Kykkos supported Metropolitan Isaiah for the post of head of the Church of Cyprus.
