Kyiv mayor announces shifting memorial days to summer

On April 14, 2020, the mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held an online briefing on the situation with the coronavirus, during which he announced that the memorial days would be postponed to June 6. Klitschko posted the video of the briefing on his YouTube channel.

According to the Kyiv mayor, the idea of postponing memorial days came from representatives of religious denominations.

“I also stress that on memorial days all cemeteries of the city will be closed by the decision of the emergency commission. I remind that the proposal to postpone the memorial days were also made by representatives of denominations, with whom I have repeatedly met,” said Klitschko. “Memorial days have been postponed to June 6.”

Earlier, he said that the authorities couldn’t forbid Kyiv residents to go to church at Easter.
