It was a pleasure to become a witness and a participant in the process of completing the work that began a hundred years ago – the obtaining of an independent Ukrainian Church. The Consul General of Ukraine in Istanbul Alexander Gaman said this in an interview with the “Ukrinform” news agency, noting that the Consulate General has “very good” relations with the Phanar.

According to him, the representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople are “very experienced diplomats, it is always pleasant to talk with them, and we do this quite often”.

“An independent Ukrainian Church has always been Ukraine’s dream and need,” said the Consul General. - <...> Exactly one hundred years ago, the diplomat and public figure Vladimir Mursky, working in Istanbul, did practically the same thing that we have been doing. He actively communicated with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, worked to ensure that Ukraine would receive its local Church. ”

Gaman said that he “was very pleased to be a witness and a participant in the process of completing the work that our predecessors began a century ago".

“We are grateful to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and personally Patriarch Bartholomew for supporting and implementing this idea,” he emphasized.

As reported earlier, the head of the OCU Epiphany said that the actions of Patriarch Bartholomew brought Orthodoxy “many good fruits”.
