Romanian Orthodox Mission Dedicated to St. Sofian Opens in Quebec
North America’s first parish dedicated to St. Sofian has been established in Canada.
L’ÎLE-PERROT, QUEBEC — The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and Canada (OCA) has approved the establishment of a new Romanian Orthodox mission in L’Île-Perrot, Quebec, with the blessing of His Eminence Abp. Nathaniel. The decision was confirmed last Tuesday by the Episcopate Council.
The newly formed parish will be dedicated to St. Sofian of Antim Monastery, one of Romania’s recently canonized saints. Church leaders said the mission is the first parish in North America placed under the patronage of St. Sofian, whose spiritual legacy of humility, prayer, and guidance continues to inspire Orthodox faithful worldwide.
Pastoral leadership of the mission has been entrusted to Rev. Fr. Nicolae Marinescu, who will oversee divine services and community development. The mission’s first Divine Liturgy occurred on Sunday, May 10, in nearby Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.
