Metr. Tikhon Encourages Support for OCA Clergy Wives Retreat
The OCA is investing in the spiritual renewal of clergy wives, recognizing that healthy clergy families strengthen the entire Church.
SPRINGFIELD, VA — The Orthodox Church in America (OCA) is encouraging broad support for clergy wives seeking to attend the inaugural Clergy Wives Retreat, scheduled for July 27–30 at Antiochian Village in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Registration for the event closes June 29.
His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon called on dioceses, parishes, clergy, and faithful throughout the Church to assist clergy wives in participating. He emphasized that caring for clergy families is a responsibility shared by the Church and local communities, describing the retreat as an important act of stewardship rather than a luxury. Organizers hope the gathering will provide participants with an opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities, strengthen their spiritual lives, and find renewal through prayer and fellowship.
The retreat will be led by Dr. Ioana Popa, a physician-psychiatrist, board-certified chaplain, and spiritual care coach. Under the theme “Come Away and Rest: A Blueprint for Renewal and Resilience in Our Journey with the Lord,” participants will explore the challenges of stress and burnout while engaging in prayer, reflection, journaling, and group discussions focused on spiritual and personal well-being.
In addition to structured sessions, the program includes time for quiet reflection, walks, and informal fellowship. Organizers say the retreat is designed to foster friendships among clergy wives and provide practical tools for sustaining a healthy and grounded life in Christ.
Support for the initiative has already emerged at the diocesan level. Last week, Abp. Mark announced that the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania would cover registration costs for all clergy wives and widows who wish to attend.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the OCA launched a program to strengthen the financial stability of clergy families.
