The repression of the Ukrainian authorities against the UOC is a violation of religious freedom, and the consequences of these actions will be devastating, reports Katholisch citing German Catholic Bishop Gerhard Feige.

"Even if some of the arguments of the government (of Ukraine – Ed) are understandable. But such a violation of freedom of religion will, in any case, have devastating consequences," he said.

At the same time, commenting on the situation with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the bishop said, "If the monks refuse to follow the order, they will be forcibly expelled and the monastery will be transferred to the more nationalist OCU."

As reported, a hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America has stood up for the UOC and called for prayers for the brethren of the monastery.

The UOJ also wrote that the UOC is being expelled from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
