On March 26, 2023, while talking with Facebook users, Metropolitan Luke of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol announced that from Monday he would begin a hunger strike in support of the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
According to the hierarch of the UOC, his decision is not so much the position of a hierarch and a monk, but of a simple believer, since his “heart bleeds”, looking at what is happening with the shrine in Kyiv.
Metropolitan Luke intends to be on a hunger strike in St. Nicholas Monastery in Zaporizhzhia. The hierarch of the UOC urged believers to come to this monastery and join the prayer for the UOC.
Vladyka also urged the flock to strengthen the fast for the next few days (the Ukrainian authorities are forcing the monks to leave the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra before March 29 – Ed.).
As previously reported by the UOJ, Metropolitan Luke said that the behavior of the authorities in relation to the Church is a slap in the face of the Lavra's Venerable Fathers.
