On March 29, 2023, Patriarch Porfirije, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, condemned state terror against the UOC in a letter to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
“With a deep sense of anxiety, we observe how you endure harassment and persecution from the current Ukrainian authorities, which reached its peak with seizing churches and announcing the eviction of 250 monks and several hundred professors and students from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,” wrote the Primate of the Serbian Churches.
According to Patriarch Porfirije, the decision of the current Ukrainian authorities to expel Metropolitan Onuphry, together with the abbot, brothers, professors and students, from the Lavra “is a horrifying intention of state terror against the Church.”
The Primate of the Serbian Church stressed that this case is also a testimony to “gross violation of religious and property rights.”
“We raise our voice against the injustice and state terror that is perpetrated against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the world government,” wrote Patriarch Porfirije.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Serbian Patriarch made a statement in support of the UOC.
