On April 17, 2023, the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Epifaniy Dumenko, thanked those Ukrainians who did not bless their Easter cakes in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). Dumenko believes that the blessing of the cakes in the OCU is a "significant contribution and support in the joint struggle against hybrid aggression".
On his Facebook page, Dumenko decided to thank "all Orthodox believers who consciously chose to pray in the churches and communities of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine during these festive days".
"Perhaps for some, this led to inconvenience because they had to wait longer for the blessing of the Easter basket or travel further from home than was previously usual. But your choice and your decision are also a significant contribution and support in the joint struggle against hybrid aggression," Dumenko said.
Earlier, it was reported that according to a "priest" of the OCU, an Easter cake blessed in the UOC is simply a cake.
