Unknown individuals created a fake Instagram account of the deputy head of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC, the rector of the Kyiv Church of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, Archpriest Mykola Danylevych. The fraudsters engage in correspondence on behalf of the priest and swindle money from people, Fr Mykola reports on his Telegram channel.
"Friends, attention, scammers on Instagram have created an account in my name and are writing to people, asking for money supposedly for volunteering, for helping the army, and so on!" the archpriest wrote. "Don't believe it, don't send money. This account is fake!"
Father Mykola published a sample correspondence that the scammers maintain on his behalf.
As reported, Archpriest Mykola Danylevych denied the misinformation published on the Glavcom website that he is allegedly a Russian citizen and maintains "close relations with the leadership of the ROC DECR".
