Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko did not rule out that "illegal" buildings in the Lower Lavra would be legalized. He said this in an interview with NV.
According to him, “illegal” facilities have been built in the Lower Lavra for years, and their fate will be determined after studying a number of issues.
“This is a legal reason: how to either legalize them or what to do with them in the future. And second: what should be their functionality,” he said.
At the same time, Tkachenko commented on the presence of various workshops and industries on the territory of the Lower Lavra. He noted that any monastery has the right to conduct economic activities, and the presence of such workshops in the Lavra, according to Tkachenko, is not illegal.
“Regarding how legal the presence of production facilities on the territory of the Lavra was, this is a UNESCO monument: until such actions violate the historical, cultural landscape, what was and is the property of the Ukrainian people. I don’t think it was illegal,” the minister added.
As reported by the UOJ, Tkachenko said there will be folk crafts and a military rehabilitation center in the Lower Lavra after the ejection of the UOC.
