On August 20, 2020, the Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, met with the hierarch of the Patriarchate of Antioch, Metropolitan Basil of Akkar, who was accompanied by Archimandrite Alexy (Fadi). This was reported on the Facebook page of Metropolitan Anthony.
The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Varsonofy of Vinnytsia and Bar and Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Relations of the UOC.
The hierarchs exchanged views on church life in Ukraine and Lebanon.
Metropolitan Anthony informed the guest about the recent decision of the Holy Synod of the UOC to raise donations to help the Orthodox Church of Antioch in view of the disaster that occurred on August 4 in the port of Beirut.
As the UOJ reported earlier, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at its session, which took place on August 17, 2020, at the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, chaired by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, decided to announce a fundraiser to provide assistance to the Antiochian Orthodox Church.
