Seven UOC churches flooded because of Kakhovka HES explosion

Seven churches of the Kherson Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church flooded as a result of the blowing of the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
According to the data, in the disaster zone are the Church of the Kasperovskaya Icon of the Mother of God and St George’s Church in Kherson, St Nina’s Church in Oleshki and St Nicholas’s Church in the village of Sadove, the Church of the Unburnt Thornbush (Neopalimaya Kupina) icon in vlg. Pravye Sagi and the Сhurch of the Korsun icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary in vlg. Peshchanovka, Kherson district, as well as St. Andrew’ss Church in vlg. Kardashinka, Skadovsk district.
Details of the events reported on the website of the Church of the Kasperovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, located in Kherson district Korabel: "We are located on an island that is surrounded by water from all sides – now the district is completely flooded with 1.5-2 metres of constantly arriving water. <...> Now the church is flooded – water is floating inside the church, destroying both the church building and the church utensils, furniture and icons. The church bakery, which used to bake charitable bread and prepare lunches for the flooded residents of Kherson, has also been damaged.
The faithful are asking for help for the church priests and their families, parishioners and all residents of the flooded region.
As reported, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is collecting donations to help residents of the Kherson region affected by the collapse of the Kakhovka dam.
