On July 7, 2023, the head of the Church of Constantinople, Patriarch Bartholomew, claimed that he was fighting “for a sound ecclesiology,” according to the fosfanariou.gr website.

During a meeting with Metropolitan Nektarios (Spiroux) of Kition of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, Patriarch Bartholomew stated that "our two Churches are bound by sacred and inseparable bonds, those of a common faith and common struggle for it."

“And today, our Churches are waging a dignified struggle to preserve the integrity of a rightful and sound ecclesiology, which is subjected to various attacks and sacrificed on the altar of political aspirations and geostrategic planning,” the head of the Phanar said.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that according to Patriarch Bartholomew, any attempt to challenge the Tomos of the OCU triggers a new ecclesiology.
