On 24 August 2023, Independence Day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited St. Sophia’s Cathedral in Kyiv and prayed for peace in the country with representatives of denominations, among which there were no representatives of the UOC. Photos from the St. Sophia of Kyiv were published on the website of the Office of the President.

It is noted that during the "solemn event" prayers for Ukraine were offered, and the chamber choir "performed the work" "Our Father".

The published footage shows that together with Zelensky, the head of the OCU Epifaniy Dumenko, the head of the UGCC Svшatoslav Shevchuk, the chief rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman, as well as representatives of the RСC, Muslims and Protestants were present at St Sophia’s Cathedral.

As reported, on Independence Day, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry led a divine service in the Lavra.

His Beatitude Onuphry congratulated the UOC believers and all Ukrainians on the 32nd anniversary of the country's independence.
