The head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, called on Ukrainians not to renounce Catholicism. In his opinion, belonging to the RCC is a necessary condition for Ukraine’s victory in the war with the Russian Federation. He stated this at a liturgy in Rome dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the “martyrdom” of Josaphat Kuntsevych, the UGCC website reports.

Shevchuk stated that the Uniates are in unity with Catholicism not for political or diplomatic reasons, but because they are “sons and daughters of the Universal Church.”

“Today Josaphat (Kuntsevych – Ed.) speaks to us: Children of Ukraine, never listen to the voices of those who tell you to renounce this unity,” said Sviatoslav Shevchuk.

According to him, “Ecumenical Catholic Christian solidarity is a necessary condition for the sustainability and survival of our Church and people — a prerequisite for Ukraine’s victory in the struggle between good and evil that our people are waging today.”

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the OCU urged the Uniates to come out of their subordination to Rome.
