Around noon on 9 November 2023, as a result of shelling of the Ostrov microdistrict in Kherson, one resident of the city was killed and three were wounded,” Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on the TG channel.
He also mentioned the shelling of an Orthodox church and posted a photo of it. As found out, the Church of the Kasperovo Icon of the Mother of God suffered. The church's dome was broken through, the roof was hit by shrapnel, and the cross on the iconostasis was damaged.
In June 2023, this church suffered from flooding after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. The rector of the flooded Kasperovo Church, Archpriest John Gordienko on a motorboat provided by the Ukrainian military, delivered bread, water and necessities to the residents of the district Ostrov.
