RF Permanent Representative to OSCE urges to record facts of attack on UOC

On January 28, 2021, Alexander Lukashevich, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE, called on the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to quickly establish all the facts of the attack on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, RIA Novosti reports.

At an online meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, Lukashevich pointed to the ongoing attacks on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: “There were several incidents in January. On January 12 and 16, in Zaporozhye, attacks with the use of knives were carried out on two clerics of the Zaporozhye Eparchy – Archpriest Vladimir Gumeniuk and Deacon Georgy Cherpakov. In the first case, the priest was wounded in the temporal region of the head, an operation was required, "said the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE.

Lukashevich added that on January 18 and 21, the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist and St. Vladimir's Cathedral were vandalized in Kharkov, with the doors broken and religious shrines and donations stolen.

“Unfortunately, information about these events has not yet been reflected in the SMM reports. We hope that the mission will promptly establish all the facts. We urge it to closely monitor what is happening in Ukraine in accordance with its mandate and promptly indicate the relevant information in the reports,” Lukashevich stressed.
