On 7 December 2023, a monk of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra fell out of the window of his cell, reports a source in the monastery.

The monk received numerous fractures, including a severe spinal injury. According to the brethren, publications in the Ukrainian media that he abused alcohol are a dirty lie. For many years, the monk had periodically suffered from mental disorders, which in the time of the Lavra’s prosperity almost did not manifest themselves.

Due to the pressure of the authorities on the monastery, his condition deteriorated sharply. Since he lived alone in a cell, the brethren were unable to help him in time.

As earlier reported, the Lavra continues to give communion to believers through the bars.
