On December 9, 2023, His Beatitude Archbishop Tikhon of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada, sent congratulations on the anniversary of the episcopal consecration to the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, according to the DECR UOC.

In his congratulations, His Beatitude Archbishop Tikhon recalled the consecration event of the St. George's Great Martyr Church in Kyiv by Metropolitan Ilarion of Kyiv, an event that took place on this day during the time of Prince Yaroslav the Wise in the mid-eleventh century.

According to him, "this ancient connection between Your Beatitude's Throne is a prototype of many great sufferings that Kyiv has experienced over the centuries."

"Now the sorrows of Kyivan shrines and the sufferings of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church continue. May the prayers of the Great Martyr always be a help and consolation to Your Beatitude and Your flock in these troubled times," wrote the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America.

He assured His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of his prayers and also noted that his flock sincerely empathizes with their Ukrainian brothers in Christ.

"Please keep us informed of the situation in Your Church, and do not hesitate to inform us if we can be helpful to Your Beatitude and the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church," the congratulation says.

Earlier, the OCA expressed support for the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
