In the Great Bell Tower of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a performance titled "Vertep: Unbaroque Mystery" took place as part of the nationwide GRA festival. The event was reported on the National Reserve's Facebook page.
The performance, nominated for the "Best Presentation at the Intersection of Theatrical Genres, Artistic Synthesis, and Performative Forms," was showcased in one of the premises of the Great Lavra Bell Tower. Photographs posted show actors holding banners featuring an image of an angel. The performance utilized candles and a projected image of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus Christ as props.
"The performance is described as a modern interpretation of the Galagan Vertep, operating according to the laws of live action rather than puppet theater. It combines the tradition of Ukrainian Baroque theater, professionally informed historical musical performance, live harpsichord sound, contemporary expressive means, sophisticated visual design, and interactivity, making the audience participants in the spectacle," as conveyed by the reserve.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the Ministry of Culture organized a "contemporary music" concert in the Refectory Church of the Lavra.
