On December 11, 2023, near the UOC Assumption Cathedral in the city of Rivne, children found a treasure – a box with gold coins, as reported by the local resource "Radio Trek".
According to the publication, communal workers were laying tiles and digging the ground opposite the temple. Children playing there over the weekend discovered a small box the size of a two-liter jar, inside of which were royal gold coins.
According to eyewitnesses, the police confiscated the box from the children. Journalists reached out to human rights activists for additional information, but they were told that "no one knows anything yet."
The wooden Assumption Church is one of the oldest in the city, built in 1756. It has survived practically unchanged to this day.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a military person who seized the UOC temple in Rivne gave land for a new temple.
