On 28 December 2023 in Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region, mayor Andriy Naida, the OCU "clergy" and public activists held a "public hearing" near the St. Nicholas Church of the UOC, and then voted for the liquidation of the Nicholas community, reports "Informator".
About 60 people came to the gathering. Those present decided to:
- terminate the activities of the community by liquidation;
- create a commission to terminate the activities of the parish;
- transfer the immovable property of the UOC community into the ownership of the Kalush town territorial community.
The local authorities closed the church about a year ago. Now Kalush believers go to Pochaiv and temples of Transcarpathia for worship.
According to the resource, there are battles in social networks about which denomination will take the St. Nicholas Church of the UOC. According to the activists, this issue will be decided later, after the liquidation of the Nicholas community of the UOC.
Those present were inspired by the example of the town of Nadvirna and the village of Koniushki, where the authorities liquidated the UOC communities.
The St. Nicholas Church in Kalush was seized by armed men in March 2022 immediately after the invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
