His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry addressed the soldiers-internationalists and congratulated them on the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

The Primate of the UOC said that the feat of the military is a renunciation of self, it is in full measure a sacrifice that a person gives in an endeavour to defeat evil.

"I wish the modern generation of Ukrainians, who are fighting for the independence and territorial integrity of our state in the war against the Russian aggressor, to learn from your example of courage and the desire to selflessly serve God and the Homeland," Metropolitan Onuphry said.

He wished the Afghan warriors that the Almighty God would grant them blessed longevity, good health, spiritual inspiration, strength and His help.

As reported, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the eve of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord led an all-night vigil at St Agapit Church.
