On February 15, 2024, at the Catholic Cathedral of St. Patrick in New York City, a scandalous funeral of transgender activist Cecilia Gentili took place, writes The Guardian.
The New York Times noted that liturgical images and a photograph near the altar depicted Ms. Gentili with a halo, surrounded by Spanish words 'transvestite', 'whore', 'blessed', and 'mother' above the text of the 25th psalm. "The pews were packed with mourners, many of them transgender, who wore daring high-fashion outfits."
One of Gentili's admirers went up to the lectern and described the deceased as "this whore, this great whore, Saint Cecilia, the mother of all whores", while her family wrote, "We brought precious life and radical joy to the Cathedral in radical defiance of the church’s hypocrisy and anti-trans hatred."
The archdiocese released a statement saying that "it had no idea our welcome and prayer would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way." Pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Enrique Salvo, said they had not known about Gentili's background or beliefs when they agreed to host the service.
Earlier, it was reported that in the United States, authorities took away a 14-year-old child for gender 'transition' against parents' will.
