On January 2, 2024, the SBU sent a letter to the head of the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration, Serhiy Borzov, demanding to check the "condition of preservation" of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ of the UOC in Tulchyn. This was reported by the press service of the Tulchyn Eparchy.
In the letter, the SBU referred to the UOC cathedral as a "church", and the head of the regional administration placed a resolution "To be executed" on it.
The diocese noted that the cathedral, which was previously an unfinished Roman Catholic monastery, was acquired by the Orthodox community of Tulchyn. In addition, the relevant decision on the acquisition of the shrine was confirmed by the Tulchyn City Court.
The diocese also explained that the UOC community had done a tremendous amount of work to restore the cathedral after the Soviet era, when it housed a cinema and a sports hall.
"To provide electricity to the cathedral and all the premises of the cathedral complex, to install heating, replace rusty pipes, install water supply, restore the multi-kilometer three-lane manual plastering, change the rotten emergency dome and roof, a huge amount of work was done. At the same time, the Tulchyn City Council donated a whole 50 kg of nails for all repairs of the architectural monument," the UOC added.
As reported by the UOJ, the court refused the UOC to extend the lease agreements for two cathedrals in Chernihiv.
