The Patriarchate of Constantinople took part in the ecumenical congress, which was held in Frankfurt, Germany on May 15, 2021, with the participation of the Roman Catholic Church and representatives of Protestantism, reports “Evangelisch”.

Phanar representatives took part in this event for the first time. A month earlier, the chairman of the "Central Committee of German Catholics" Thomas Sternberg said that on May 15, 2021, "Christians of all denominations" at 19 o'clock "in many places of worship in Frankfurt and throughout the country will have the opportunity to enter (churches – Ed.), to learn about different traditions and – following their own conscience – to join the celebration of the living memory of Jesus Christ (that is, to take the Holy Communion – Ed.).”

He stressed that "the signal must come from Frankfurt to continue the search for ecumenical unity in everyday life and in mutual visits to communities".

As reported by the UOJ, in Germany, representatives of the Catholic and Protestant churches decided to hold an ecumenical prayer meeting with joint communion, despite the objection of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which considers "mutual participation in the Lord's Supper and the Eucharist for Catholics and non-Catholics is impossible".
