Amsterdam: Authorities ignore independence of UOC from Moscow due to OCU

American lawyer for the UOC Robert Amsterdam on May 27, 2024, on his network X, reminded of the second anniversary of the UOC Cathedral in Feofania, where fundamental changes were made to the Statute governing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Statute had all clauses specifying the dependence of the UOC on the ROC removed.

"Today is the second anniversary of the UOC declaring its complete independence from Moscow, a fact which has been studiously ignored by Stefanchuk and Yelenskyi," the lawyer wrote.

According to Robert Amsterdam, the Ukrainian authorities "ignore this fact because they are trying to break canon law with a political project."

"They are humiliated by the fact that the OCU is schismatic and rejected by the wider Orthodox world. And this is the purpose of 8371; to force the recognition that they so crave," he emphasized.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that American lawyer for the UOC Robert Amsterdam pointed out the main feature of those who persecute believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
