Renowned Bulgarian journalist Velislava Dyreva stated that the election of Patriarch Daniel has historical significance for the entire Orthodox world, as it disrupted the Phanariot and American plans to take over the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, according to the Glasove publication.

According to her, if these plans had succeeded, it would have been not just a schism, but a "coup – ecclesiastical, state, and geopolitical."

Dyreva stated that in Patriarch Daniel, people saw hope, and the joy over his election was spontaneous and very strong.

"Thanks to this election, a number of dangers were overcome. First and foremost, the geopolitical pressure on our Church, and secondly, the internal political threats," she said.

As the UOJ reported, Archimandrite Dionysius of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church stated that knowing the composition of the three candidates for the Patriarchal throne, he was very pleasantly surprised by the election of Daniel as the Primate of the BOC.
