On July 24, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Dimitar Glavchev. According to the BOC website, the conversation noted the traditionally good relations between the Church and state authorities.
Patriarch Daniel emphasized that cooperation between representatives of state institutions and the Church needs to continue and develop. His Holiness also stressed that peace and security in society are extremely important today.
"The Bulgarian Orthodox Church has always been a support in the most difficult moments of people's lives. I am confident that you will continue this tradition," the Prime Minister addressed the Patriarch. "The soul and faith in the Lord are the foundation of the nation's prosperity. The Church will remain an institution that gives us hope for a better future."
The meeting discussed the idea of teaching the subject "Religion-Orthodoxy" in schools, noting similar examples in other countries.
Glavchev presented Patriarch Daniel with a commemorative coin "Exarch Anthim I", and the Patriarch, in turn, gave the Prime Minister a collection of silver coins "Monasteries of Bulgaria."
The Prime Minister wished Patriarch Daniel health and strength in his mission to be a support and hope for all Bulgarians. After the meeting, Patriarch Daniel blessed the members of the Council of Ministers before the government meeting.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Bulgarian Patriarch had earlier met with the head of the European Commission's representation.
