From September 1 to 3, a Synaxis of the hierarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate took place in Istanbul under the chairmanship of Patriarch Bartholomew. According to the Phanar's website, during one of the sessions, the assembly members addressed the issue of the establishment of the Russian Orthodox Church's Exarchate in Africa.
At the end of the session, a letter from Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa was read, in which he informed the hierarchs of the Phanar about the "uncanonical and entirely contrary to sound ecclesiology incursion of the Moscow Patriarchate into the canonical territory of the Church of Alexandria, and about the division and scandal caused among the people of God in Africa."
It was noted that the Synaxis unanimously condemned the aforementioned illegal actions of the Russian Church and expressed unconditional support for the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
The hierarchs of the Phanar also expressed their support for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, the Synaxis of the Ecumenical Patriarchate condemned the ideology of the "Russian World".
