At the invitation of Archbishop Paisius of Przemysl and Gorlice, Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novograd-Volynsk took part in the celebrations to commemorate the holy Hieromartyr Maxim Gorlicki (+1914), who is part of the Synaxis of Zhytomyr Saints, reports a UOJ correspondent.
Co-served by the Archbishop Paisius of Przemysl and Gorlice and Abel of Lublin and Chełm, as well as the clergy of the Polish Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Nikodim celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Gorlice.
At the end of the service, the Ukrainian bishop delivered a sermon in which he noted that Hieromartyr Maxim Gorlicki was close to the Orthodox Zhytomyr region since he studied at the Volyn Theological Seminary in Zhytomyr and was ordained there.
Metropolitan Nikodim also donated to Archbishop Paisius an icon with a piece of the relics of the recently canonized Saint Eumenius of Zhytomyr.
In turn, from Archbishop Paisius, Vladyka Nikodim received the icon of Hieromartyr Maxim Gorlicki with a part of his relics and was also awarded the diocesan medal of this saint.
In June 2021, Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novograd-Volynsk, as well as the vicar of the Rivne Eparchy, Bishop Pimen, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in one of the churches in the city of Chełm (Poland).
