A documentary about UOC saint being filmed in Volyn

The film crew, which is shooting a documentary film about St. Hierotheus of Ostroh together with the abbess of the Holy Trinity Derman Monastery of the UOC Veronica (Zoshchuk) visited the small homeland of the saint – the Volyn village of Oblapy in the Kovel region, writes the press service of the Volodymyr-Volynsky Eparchy.

Archpriest Vitaly Vitik, rector of the Church of St Basil the Great, met the guests.

It is noted that this is where the childhood years of the future bishop passed. His father was the first rector of the Church of Symeon the Stylite in Oblapy.

St Hierotheus of Ostrog headed the Derman Monastery for 42 years. On the basis of the monastery he opened a parish school, arranged an electric telegraph, restored a small ancient church built by Prince Ostrozhsky, filled the library with new Orthodox and scientific publications in different languages. Bishop Hierotheus paid great attention to education. The saint died on 17 April 1871 at the age of 84. One hundred and fifty years after his death, the relics of the bishop were found incorruptible. By the decision of the Holy Synod of the UOC on 17 August 2021 Bishop Hierotheus (Lobachevsky) is ranked among the saints of the Rivne Eparchy.

As previously reported, on 11 September 2022, the glorification of St Hierotheus (Lobachevsky) took place at the Holy Trinity Derman Monastery in Volyn.
