In a program hosted by journalist Oleksandr Shelest, political analyst and historian Kostiantyn Bondarenko commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statement that "the time of the Moscow Church in Ukraine is over." Bondarenko noted that the president does not understand the nature of the Church, emphasizing that the Church was not created by humans.
"The Church is the creation of Jesus. He (Zelensky), as an atheist, does not understand this. Neither did others who, over the past 2,000 years, have tried to destroy the Church. Caligula, Nero, the Bolsheviks – they all faded into oblivion, but the Church remains," said the political analyst.
He further added that attempts to destroy the Church have never succeeded, and despite pressure, it will continue to exist. According to Bondarenko, even if some priests or hierarchs transition to other forms, emigrate, or go underground, believers will "endure and revive the Church after years or even decades."
As reported by the UOJ, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, stated that the government would continue dialogue with all churches in the country except for the UOC, which he referred to as the Moscow Church.
