The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) plans to seize the St. Nicholas Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Kamianka, Cherkasy region. According to the Cherkasy Eparchy, a cleric of Epifaniy Dumenko's structure, Volodymyr Pedko/Ridnyi, announced the seizure of the church for January 6, on the eve of Christmas.
The rector of the church, Fr. Heorhiy Pohorichnyi, reported that the OCU has already illegally re-registered the parish under its jurisdiction, which is currently being contested in court. However, he emphasized that the church building itself is owned by the Cherkasy Eparchy of the UOC, and the raiders have no legal grounds to enter the premises.
"The parish of this church, the community of this diocese, remains here despite everything. We will stay to protect this church from 'visitors' who act like invaders. From 'visitors' who divide our society into 'correct' and 'incorrect' Ukrainians. From those who, even during wartime, bring misfortune from within," the rector stated.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the UN is awaiting the Ukrainian authorities' response to the seizure of the UOC cathedral in Cherkasy.
