On January 20, 2025, Pope Francis sent a message to Donald Trump on the occasion of his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States. The message included the pope’s prayer for peace and reconciliation among nations, reports Vatican News.
Pope Francis addressed President Trump, saying: “I ask God to guide your efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation among peoples.”
The Pontiff expressed his heartfelt greetings and assured Trump of his prayers: “I offer cordial greetings and the assurance of my prayers that Almighty God will grant you wisdom, strength, and protection in the exercise of your high duties.”
The pope also shared his admiration for the ideals of the United States and expressed hope for the continued prosperity of the American people. “Inspired by your nation’s ideals of being a land of opportunity and welcome for all, it is my hope that under your leadership the American people will prosper and always strive to build a more just society, where there is no room for hatred, discrimination or exclusion,” the Pontiff stated.
He voiced concern about global events and appealed to Trump to address conflicts: “As our human family faces numerous challenges, not to mention the scourge of war, I also ask God to guide your efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation among peoples.”
“With these sentiments,” the Pontiff concluded, “I invoke upon you, your family, and the beloved American people an abundance of divine blessings.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Trump had taken the presidential oath of office.
