JUNE 17, 2025 — President Konstantinos Tasoulas of Greece received Archbishop Damianos of Sinai, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine, at the Presidential Mansion in Athens.

Their discussion focused on recent developments affecting the Monastery.

Archbishop Damianos conveyed his deep appreciation for the ongoing support provided by the Hellenic Republic and the Greek people.

He further assured President Tasoulas of his unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and heritage of the Monastery.

The Archbishop also extended a formal invitation to the President to attend the Monastery’s upcoming festival, set to take place at the end of the year.

Last Friday, Damianos sent an official letter to the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, urging action to address the situation surrounding St. Catherine.

President Konstantinos’s invitation suggests that Greece will intensify its diplomatic support for the Monastery in the face of alleged threats of closure or seizure by the Egyptian government.
