A newly approved English-language Akathist to St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Enlightener of America, is now available online. The service was composed in honor of the 100th anniversary of St. Tikhon’s repose and was approved for liturgical and personal use by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on March 20, 2025.

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, the Akathist was translated and edited by clerics of the Patriarchal Parishes in the U.S.A. ahead of their recent convocation. Commemorative printed copies were distributed to participants, and digital versions in both English and Church Slavonic are now accessible via the jurisdiction’s website.

A generous donation was made by St. Innocent of Irkutsk parish in Redford, Mi., which allowed for the printing of the commemorative edition.

The centennial of St. Tikhon’s repose is being celebrated throughout 2025, with major commemorations held in both Moscow – where His Holiness Patriarch Kirill served at Donskoy Monastery (the home of St. Tikhon’s holy relics) on April 7 – and in New York, where representatives of five Orthodox jurisdictions gathered for the saint’s feast.

Kondak 1

O chosen leader of the warriors of Christ, beautiful adornment of the assembly of the Patriarchs of Moscow, and victorious standard-bearer of the martyrs of the Russian lands, we praise thine archpastoral podvig and with boldness we cry aloud to thee: Rejoice, O holy hierarch Tikhon, our God chosen Patriarch.

Ikos 1

God counted thee worthy of joining the angelic assembly of the martyrs, both old and new, O Hierarch Tikhon, by choosing thee as the elected head of the Russian Church and pre-ordained leader of the ranks of martyrs. Therefore, we sing our grateful thanks to thee:

Rejoice, O herald of the Truth;

Rejoice, confirmation of faith in the hearts of the faithful.

Rejoice, for thy simplicity didst enlighten all;

Rejoice, for thou didst reveal to all the Truth of God.

Rejoice, for thou didst defeat all hatred and lies;

Rejoice, for thou wast the defender of thy flock.

Rejoice, for thou didst give hope to all by thy love;

Rejoice, for thou didst conquer hatred by thy humility.

Rejoice, O holy hierarch Tikhon, our God chosen Patriarch.
