Holy Cross Monastery Marks Major Milestones in Church Construction

WAYNE — With the help of God and the generosity of benefactors, Holy Cross Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) has made significant strides this year toward completing its new church.

During the final week of Great Lent, the brotherhood officially began using the new kitchen and trapeza, replacing the cramped double-wide trailer that had long served as a temporary dining space. Adorned with an icon of the Hospitality of Abraham, the new trapeza now offers pilgrims a warm and spacious setting to share meals with the monastic community.

In another major development, the long-awaited cupolas have finally arrived on monastery grounds after years of delay. Their delivery was made possible through the tireless efforts of Yuriy Varvashenya, who overcame numerous manufacturing and shipping challenges. Roofing work to install the cupolas and complete the surrounding tilework is currently being scheduled.

Landscaping and exterior improvements have also progressed, including the construction of a large plaza outside the new trapeza — already in use during the memorial meal for Schema-Archimandrite Panteleimon. One of Fr. Panteleimon’s final contributions before his repose was the design of the church’s stone floor, which is set to arrive by the Feast of St. Panteleimon in early August.

Interior work continues, with most of the wooden furnishings already designed and planning now focused on the iconostasis — the last major element before the church’s iconography is installed. The brotherhood plans to offer individual sponsorship opportunities for the icons once the design is finalized.

While much has been accomplished, support is still needed to complete the iconostasis, frescoes, monastic stasidi, shrines, and sacred vessels. The monastery especially welcomes recurring monthly donations as the most effective way to sustain progress.
