Schismatic Anglican Bishop Schisms from Schismatic Anglican Sect

SAN ANTONIO, TX — On August 3, the Anglican Province of America (APA) faced upheaval as Bishop Robert Todd Giffin announced the Diocese of the Central and Western States’ disaffiliation. This follows Presiding Bishop Chandler Holder Jones’ move to depose Giffin.

On Facebook, Giffin declared his diocese a non-geographic, traditional Anglican jurisdiction, embracing diverse worship styles while opposing women’s ordination and “wokeness.”

Griffin aims to plant 20 parishes or recruit 1,000 attendees to form the Anglican Missionary Church. The split reflects Giffin’s resistance to a potential APA merger with the Anglican Catholic Church, favoring a broader traditionalist vision. Giffin’s candid Facebook posts continue to drive this Anglican saga.

The APA was formed in 1995 as a traditionalist Anglican sect rooted in the Continuing Anglican movement. It emerged from groups seeking to preserve historic Anglican practices and theology, rejecting liberalizing trends like women’s ordination and progressive social policies in mainline Anglicanism.

The APA emphasizes the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, traditional liturgy, and conservative doctrine, maintaining a small but dedicated presence in the U.S. and beyond.
