St. Sava School of Theology Granted Candidacy Status for Accreditation
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — On June 30, 2025, St. Sava Serbian Orthodox School of Theology received official confirmation that the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) has granted the seminary Candidate for Accreditation status, effective June 26. This milestone marks a significant advancement toward full accreditation and conditionally affirms the academic recognition of its degrees both nationally and internationally.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, the school will engage in a comprehensive self-study, host on-site evaluation visits by MSCHE, and implement recommendations to meet the commission’s rigorous standards.
In a statement of thanks, the school expressed deep gratitude “to His Holiness, Patriarch Porfirije, and the members of the Holy Synod and the Holy Assembly of the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church for their blessing and trust; to the Board of Trustees under the leadership of Metropolitan Longin; to the Accreditation Committee and each team member for their diligent work and guidance; to the MSCHE staff for their support and assistance at every step; to our professors, administration, and students for their steadfast commitment; and especially to Fr. Methodios for expertly guiding the entire accreditation effort.”
The school also thanked supporters whose moral and financial contributions continue to make possible the formation of future clergy who will carry forward the mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
“This Candidate Status reflects our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, to preserving the sacred legacy of Saint Sava, and to advancing the educational and spiritual mission of our holy Church throughout the United States,” said the Very Rev. Dr. Aleksandar Novakovic, Dean.
For more information, the public is invited to contact Fr. Methodios, accreditation officer, at accreditation@stsava.org.
Previously, UOJ reported that Serbian Orthodox faithful celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of St. Sava Monastery, with His Eminence Metropolitan Longin calling the milestone “a sacred wellspring of spiritual life”
