Patriarch of Romania: President Trump is a defender of Christian values

BUCHAREST — On August 27, 2025, a meeting took place at the Patriarchal Residence between Patriarch Daniel of Romania and Paolo Zampolli, Special Representative of the U.S. President for Global Partnerships. The discussion focused on the importance of inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue, as well as efforts to promote peace in Ukraine, Orthodoxia News Agency reported.

During the meeting, Patriarch Daniel emphasized the importance of strengthening spiritual and cultural ties between peoples. He also expressed particular gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump, calling him a defender and promoter of Christian values. Ambassador Zampolli thanked the Patriarch for the reception and congratulated him on the active pastoral and missionary work of the Romanian Orthodox Church both in Romania and within the diaspora.

The American diplomat stressed that global interreligious dialogue has special significance amid modern crises and military conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, which has claimed many lives.

In response, Patriarch Daniel recalled the prayers for peace offered in all churches of the Romanian Church and the importance of both spiritual and material support for Ukrainian refugees. He also drew attention to pastoral ministry abroad, highlighting the work of the Romanian Archdiocese in the United States and the diocese in Canada, which care for the spiritual needs of Orthodox Romanians in North America.

Earlier, UOJ-USA reported that the Synod of the Romanian Church had criticized the authorities of Ukraine.
