Georgian Monastery Abbot Falls Asleep in the Lord

SAGURAMO — Hieromonk Egnate (Joglidze), the abbot of the Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Saguramo, reposed in the Lord on Oct. 13, 2025. This was announced by the Public Relations Department of the Georgian Patriarchate.

The funeral service and burial took place today, Oct. 16, 2025, in the monastery courtyard.

Church authorities and the faithful mourn his loss and extend heartfelt condolences to his family and spiritual community.

“May the Lord grant rest to his immortal soul among the righteous,” reads an official statement. The Church is asking believers to remember the newly departed Hieromonk Egnate in their prayers.

Previously, UOJ reported that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili visited the Alaverdi Monastery complex to review the progress of ongoing restoration.
