The Bishop of the Church of Cyprus, Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamassos and Orinis expressed an opinion about the need for an early convocation of the Meeting of the Primates of Local Churches in a statement published on the website of the Metropolitanate headed by him.
“At the backdrop of an ongoing crisis of Orthodoxy, its enemies rejoice at the unexpected ‘gift’ presented to them with our own hands. In the face of this danger, it is urgently needed to convene a Synaxis of our Primates under the chairmanship, of course, of the first of our equal Orthodox Christians, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is also responsible for convening such a Meeting, as he would do in the past until 2018, when many problems were resolved, albeit with difficulty,” the Metropolitan thinks.
The Cypriot hierarch warns of the possible toxic consequences of the current crisis.
“As this state of misunderstanding and interruption of the communion between us develops, it blatantly distorts everything that we stand for as Orthodox Christians, and now, if we continue to go along this path, which leads nowhere, we will eventually turn our Churches into closed religious groups,” says Metropolitan Isaiah.
The UOJ wrote that, according to the Cypriot hierarch, the Exarchate of the ROC in Africa is a result of the emergence of the OCU.
