The head of the Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladimir Legoyda, said in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry is the most authoritative religious leader in Ukraine.
“People still go to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, represented by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, the most authoritative religious leader of Ukraine. Only 1% of the believers joined the schismatics, but even from this small number, serious pressure was exerted on many, including threats of loss of life,” he said.
According to Vladimir Legoyda, the Russian Orthodox Church hopes that peace should come to Ukraine.
“The long-awaited peace will come to the long-suffering land of Ukraine, including through the healing of the schism. But everything should be resolved exclusively in a canonical way, not in the way chosen by the Patriarchate of Constantinople,” assures the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Metropolitan Onuphry ranked first among spiritual leaders in another rating.
