Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus of the Greek Orthodox Church said that the granting of autocephaly to the OCU leads Orthodoxy on a dangerous path, writes ekklisiaonline.gr.
“The granting of Autocephaly on cursed, imprisoned and schismatic people, without repentance and their restoration without the legal jurisdiction provided by the Holy Canons, unfortunately, lead the Orthodox Church to dangerous paths,” Metropolitan Seraphim said.
In his opinion, the Patriarchate of Constantinople has the right to grant autocephaly, but this process must take place in line with the canons and the approval of the fullness of the Church.
“In this case, the question is not whether the Ecumenical Patriarchate gave Autocephaly for good or bad, but the question is to whom it gave it. He gave it not to the Canonical Church under Metropolitan Onoufrios that all the Orthodox Churches recognized until that day, but to a crowd of sedentary, deceitful, handcuffed and cursed people who to this day appear unworthy of the highest stage.”
As earlier reported, Metropolitan Seraphim published a brochure in which he analyzes deviations from the faith by the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
