CAIRO — Bishop-Elect Philip (Mugadizi) was ordained on Tuesday, Nov. 25, to serve as Bishop of the Orthodox Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya. The ceremony took place at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St. Nicholas in Hamzawi, Cairo, with His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, presiding at the Divine Liturgy and ordination rites.

According to St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, Bishop Philip holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and Management from St. Paul’s University in Kenya and earned his Master of Divinity from St. Vladimir’s Seminary in 2003. He currently serves as Deputy Dean and Lecturer at the Orthodox Patriarchal Ecclesiastical School of Makarios III in Nairobi.

Church leaders describe the new bishop as “a devoted servant of God” whose ministry reflects “humility in his walk of faith, integrity in his leadership, and commitment to teaching the principles of the Orthodox faith." His formation, they note, shows “a rare blend of intellectual excellence and spiritual depth.”

Previously, UOJ reported that an SVS grad had been elected to serve as Bishop in Kenya.
