Metropolitan Leonid (Gorbachev), head of the Patriarchal Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa, spoke on the Spas TV channel about the main steps of the Orthodox mission on the African continent.

The Exarch stressed that in addition to spiritual guidance to the flock, missionaries will have a huge field for socio-humanitarian activities.

"We will be involved in humanitarian work, social work, and try to provide everyone with basic access to medical services. First-aid stations will be opened in remote areas. There is a lot of work to be done," the hierarch said.

He stressed it was paramount now to restore "the entire vertical of life support in Africa".

"We cannot say that the Church of Alexandria did nothing there," Metropolitan Leonid added.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote about the reasons that prompted the Russian Church to create the Exarchate in Africa.
